The Benefits of Having an Instagram Business Account

December 1, 2016

If you are a business owner or have a brand, you may (or may not) be familiar with Instagram’s business account features. Just a few months ago, Instagram rolled out new features specifically created to help business owners gain more insight into their company and to improve their customers’ experience.

Here’s what you need to know and how you can benefit from creating or updating your account:

What Are the Benefits of Having an Instagram Business Account?

Customer Experience

Contact Button: How often have you visited a business page on Instagram and wanted to contact the owner? Like most people, you either clicked the link to their website and found the contact page or tried to memorize the email address in their bio and went to your email account and typed it in, then proceeded in writing your email.

Instagram business accounts now allow page visitors to click the “Contact” button. An email then populates with the business’ email address, already auto-filled into the email! The user can then type and send their message.

Business Insights

In the business world, insights are key way to measure your business’ efforts. If something is working well, then more resources are typically devoted to it. If things are not working well, then current efforts need to be reworked.

Below are a few of the insights Instagram provides business accounts:

Impressions: Impressions are the total number of times all of your posts have been seen*.

Reach: The number of unique accounts that have seen any of your posts*.

Profile Views: The number of times your profile was viewed*.

Website Clicks: The number of taps on the website in your profile*.

Followers: Average times your followers are on Instagram on a typical day*.

Top Posts: The images with the highest number of impressions.

Another great thing about these features is that it compares each business insight to the prior week. You’ll be able to see if your reach and website clicks have increased or decreased from the week before. How awesome is that?!

How to Step Up or Edit Your Instagram Business Account

Now you may be thinking, “This is great! How do I sign up or edit my account?” Follow these easy steps:

  • Create or Link Your Facebook Business Page: You won’t be able to create an Instagram business account without first having a Facebook page for your business.

  • Add or Update Your Contact Information: Add or update your business contact information. Also send a test email to make sure your Instagram page has the correct information and that you’ve received the email in your inbox. These tests will help to minimize errors and improve the customer experience.

If you have a brand or business, having a business account on Instagram is essential to improve your customer experience and to measure your business insights.
